Peace Pledge Union

Founded in 1934, the Peace Pledge Union (PPU) is Britain’s oldest secular pacifist campaigning organisation.
Promoting peacebuilding and nonviolence, the PPU actively calls for the remembrance of all victims of war and of all nationalities. The white poppy is sold and distributed by the organisation as a commitment to achieving a more peaceful world.
As the British section of War Resisters’ International, the PPU works alongside other peace organisations across the globe, coming together to oppose war and the culture that surrounds it.
The PPU also challenges everyday militarism: the introduction of Armed Forces Day, the rise in military visits to schools, the veneration of the armed forces, and other practicies that normalise war and weaponry.
“Human beings have a right to live with dignity and security, and an obligation to help each other when that security is threatened. All human life is of equal worth and it is not acceptable that human lives become cheap in desperate situations.”

International Conscientious Objectors’ Day, held every year around 15 May, is organised by the PPU.
